Awazon Market Account Recovery: Passphrase and Mnemonic Seed

An Awazon account is anchored by two things you set at registration: a passphrase and a mnemonic seed. Understanding what each one recovers, and what neither of them can do, is the difference between a lost password and a lost account.

The passphrase

The passphrase opens the account. If you forget it, you can usually reset it, but the reset path depends on the second factor you set up. If you enabled PGP two factor, the reset is gated by a challenge only your key can answer. If you did not enable a second factor, a forgotten passphrase is a much harder problem, because the market has no human who can override the cryptography for you. Choose a long passphrase, four or five random words is the friendlier shape, and do not reuse one from another site.

The mnemonic seed

The mnemonic seed is the only thing that restores an account if the passphrase is gone. The storefront generates it the first time you log in and shows it exactly once. Write it down. Paper in a drawer is the baseline for an experienced user. A photo on your phone is not, because the phone is in the same place as the browser profile you log in with. A cloud password manager carries its own risk. The seed belongs outside the machine you use to access the market, in a place that survives the machine failing.

What recovery cannot do

Be clear about the limit. If you lose both the passphrase and the seed, the account is unrecoverable. There is no email reset, no phone fallback, and no support line that can override the cryptography. Your profile, order history and any balance in escrow stay locked. This is a deliberate design choice. An account that can be recovered by a polite message can also be taken by a convincing one. The market does not soften that trade off, and the right response is to treat the seed with the seriousness it deserves, because the day you need it is the day you wish you had written it down.
